About
The three ocean/climate related clusters of excellence in Northern Germany will organize a scientific conference on ocean and climate research within their past two funding phases. The conference’ topics will reflect the profiles of the three Clusters in Bremen (“MARUM”), Hamburg (“CliSAP”), and Kiel (“Future Ocean”) and show how they are highly complementary to each other.
The Organizers

MARUM
The excellence cluster “The Oceans in the Earth System“ builds on the DFG-Research Center “Ocean Margins “ that has been supported by the DFG since 2001. Since 2007 it was additionally funded through the excellence initiative. The aim of this cluster of excellence was to gain a better understanding of the role oceans play in the global system of the Earth. www.marum.de

CliSAP
Universität Hamburg’s cluster of excellence "Integrated Climate System Analysis and Prediction" (CliSAP) is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). CliSAP’s major aims: to improve the understanding of climate variability and predictability, as well as the impact of climate change on society. CliSAP’s major non-university partners are the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology (MPI-M), the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht (Centre for Materials and Coastal Research, HZG), and the German Climate Computing Center (DKRZ). www.clisap.de

Future Ocean
The Cluster research aims to connect Ocean System Understanding – Ocean Prediction and Scenarios – Sustainable Ocean Management and Governance, while still addressing the three main ocean challenges: Global Change, Hazards and Resources. www.futureocean.org
